Project Manager 

The City of Chesapeake Public Works, Facilities Construction Division is recruiting for a Project Manager to provide administrative control, such as budgetary and scheduling, and quality control/quality assurance for complex Public Works projects (i.e., buildings, parks and general construction). Develop designs for various types of municipal projects with city personnel or professional consultants.

Duties include administering construction contracts to ensure compliance with specifications and all applicable standards, schedules, and managing the City's A/E consultants. Handle all project correspondence and coordinate activities with internal and external agencies. Work with contractors and consulting architects, engineers and/or staff engineers. Provide reviews of project progress submittals and contractor payment applications and all administrative elements of construction administration. Monitor project schedules and project budgets. Prepare monthly status reports for the Facilities Construction Manager. Investigate contractor claims and provide recommendations to Facilities Construction Manager. Coordinate substantial and final inspections, institutes defect period, and follow-up actions during defect period.Skilled in extensive supervisory experience; apply appropriate management and leadership principals to ensure tasks are efficiently and effectively completed. Extensive experience with contract administration; properly complete contract requirements with fiscal constraints and project construction schedule. Ability to apply architectural and engineering knowledge, judgement, and experience to ensure appropriate design principals are applied, so clear and concise products are consistently produced.

VOCATIONAL/EDUCATIONAL: Requires Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Engineering, or closely related field.
SPECIAL CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES: Driver's License, Professional Engineer or Architect License with broad exposure to a variety of municipal capital projects.
